Comic-Con: Day 3
Saturday kicked off Day 3 of Comic-Con, and the crowds poured onto the convention floor to start the weekend in Geek Style.
At noon, deviantART hosted our final panel: How to Supercharge Your deviantART Profile Like the Masters.  Moderated by none other than our fearless ninja, Angelo (aka spyed), we were honored to have the following superstars share their deviantART experiences with the crowd:
- Adam Warren (AdamWarren -- “The Dirty Pair,” “Empowered”)
- Mark Brooks (diablo2003, from Marvel Comics)
- Jim Zubkavich (Zubby -- Project Manager of Creative Services, Udon Entertainment)
- Dave Elliott (DeevElliott -- “Heavy Metal Magazine”)
- Wenqing Yan (yuumei, creator of “Knite,” “1000 W0RDS”)
- Kevin Eastman (Kevineastman -- co-creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)
- Chris Sanders (alohalilo creator of “Lilo & Stitch”)
It was truly a remark

Username Changes Now Available
DeviantART has been around for almost twelve years, and in that time, we've seen artists grow from hobbyists to students to professionals. As a member of any community, your identity can change and grow over time.
For years, we've been getting requests from the community asking for the ability to change usernames. We realize that as an artist, it's important to give you the ability to change your personal brand, just as you change your interests, skills, and art types.

How It Works

Deviants can now change their username in their Settings. To change your username, you must have an active Premium Membership.  (The reason there is a "fee" associated with the change is because switching usernames is a complex technical proc

Riding Dragon with Taiko sketch
Here's an old sketch that I had been working on, it's been a work in progress for too long. Would love to photoshop this image to see what else I can get out of it. For now it seems like a rather fun idea/ concept.

The man in Black Flames
Here's just a doodle that eventually grew into an illustration (bad phrasing i know). Here I was playing around with spindly motifs, etc. Not sure what's meant to be in the gaping hole in the middle.

Incidentally he does kinda look like the Major from Hellsing (Herushingu) by Kohta Hirano.

Rough study of a Nagado-Daiko
Here's the sketch of a Nagado-Daiko which I managed to draw whilst at the Mugenkyo Taiko Dojo around Strathaven, Scotland.
These are the standard traditional long-bodied drums which often feature at festivals, shrines and temples. When I was practicing on on these with the bachi sticks and with the correct stance and 'hitting' of the drum (you don't whack the skin, you raise your arms, drop arms letting gravity do the work, then with a wrist movement your bachi should be making contact with the skin making that reverberating bang sound)

At the dojo, they explained the phrases, practices, rhythm and they brought up their teaching and experiences. All in all it was a fun trip, and I met several lovely people there too.

Fiery Bust-pencil illustration
This was just a doodle that managed to warrant my attention to playing around with further. This is just the drawing, there's a fully coloured illustration. Coming soon-ish.

That chapter mentioned in the previous journal entry has now become at least a few volumes if we were to jot down all the interesting bits whilst getting across the main points.

Managed to spend a year working at the Marks & Spencer in Basingstoke for a year, then work at the Odeon Cinema at the Point leisure centre in Bracknell (see, closer to home already).

Since coming back to Bracknell, I've been able to get into some Life Drawing classes -which will greatly improve my figure drawing and addressing shadows in my pictures. Also been hanging out with Reading friends more and more, bands, still been going to London gigs on occasion. Also been going to gigs and some events in Southampton (as of last year), which I'm still happy to go to, the challenges there are fitting these events around work and travelling around Southampton to find the venues. Still worth it. I need to have more adventures.

I'm now involved in some Live Action Role-play escapades, go me.

I still go to art workshops when and where I can. And I reckon I'm improving with my gig sketches.

And I am toying with the ideas of working on role-playing game art projects among other things including my commissions.

With all that said, hope everyone has a successful 2017 and more.
  • Listening to: Ayria, Blur-Park Life, Alice Francis, Mr B.
  • Reading: some catchup reading
  • Watching: my life drift away
  • Playing: music on my compy
  • Eating: biscuits
  • Drinking: tea this time

Hello!  Were you the sketcher at the London Anime Con this weekend?  I'm one of the performers as part of the OC Remix act on Sunday and I still feel really surprised by what you did out there.  I hope you had a great time! :-)

I just wanna say thanks for being one of the least difficult people in the preparation for the comic ^-^ It's been very stressful trying to give everybody what they want but keep the story from becoming a bad one.
And quite a few people are neglecting coming to speak to the design team about their characters and i heard from Emily you were a delight with sorting out your character XD
